Wicked!

                                               Wicked!

One of the most amazing West End musicals to hit London

Wicked is a West End wonder one of the most magical musicals around. Telling the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North. This spectacular show is one of a kind and definitely one of the best West End musicals in London’s Apollo Theatre.
It has previously won multiple awards such as the most popular show and the best West End Show. It’s based on the original novel by Gregory Mcguire and didn’t disappoint with a fantastic cast and stunning production they more than impressed.
It takes you right back to the beginning of the Wizard of Oz when the Wicked Witch of the West is dead. Then begins to tell the story between the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North, known as Glinda and Elphaba. Transporting you back to the beginning of the two witches lives showing how their friendship grew and all was not as it seemed.
The two witches were outstanding and made a fantastic duo with their professional and polished performance they were an asset to the show. The popular and pretty Glinda played by Louise Dearman and the misunderstood Elphaba played by Rachel Tucker.
The story is based on their friendship, meeting as sorcery students at the University of Shiz. Their story begins there when the unlikely pair become room mates resulting in a long lasting and complicated friendship. You will be truly shocked with the outcome, as they both take different paths that lead to unexpected outcomes.
It’s not until they both journey to visit the Wizard of Oz that things begin to get messy. Glinda is obsessed with being popular and consumed by power and Elphaba has a need to try and do what’s right and remain true to her beliefs. Which results in earth shattering consequences, ultimately leading Elphaba to what appears to be her doom.
Joining the cast was Matt Willis who gave a surprising yet brilliant performance, although not classically trained he gave his best efforts in a convincing and well performed role as Fiyero and the Scarecrow. A far cry from his boy band days Matt put his inner rocker aside for the night and became a musical success.
The entire cast were unbelievable with a flawless performance their ensemble scenes were very powerful and well produced not one person was out of key. However Rachel Tucker playing Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) stole the show, she was born to perform with spine tingling vocals she added a new and exciting dimension to the role. The Wicked Witch is a moving role showing how society makes her turn into what she is, as her only motive is to do what is right but it all goes horribly wrong.
This West End musical was astounding you can see the time and work that has been put into it. The constantly moving and changing set was amazing and reflected each scene perfectly complimenting this was the great use of lighting and music that was simply stunning. It proved to be a smash hit with the audience at the end they were up on their feet applauding. This musical is simply breath taking and definitely one to watch, you do not want to miss out on the musical of the year. With plenty of twists and turns, this musical will show you what really went down in the Land of Oz.
